WRIGHT
BROTHERS Aeroplane
Company
All of the Wright airplanes in our Virtual Hangar are available for educational presentations, shows, and exhibitions. You can arrange to have them brought to you by contacting the Wright Brother Aeroplane Company at the address below.
The 1899 Wright Kite and the 1902 Wright Glider are part of The Spirit of Dayton Project, a "portable museum" of pioneer aviation that also includes the 1878 Wright "Bat," a rubber band-powered helicopter Will and Orv built when they were kids; and the 1901 Wright Wind Tunnel, a scientific device that enabled them to refine their airplane designs. All of these can be set up in an enclosed space (20' x 40' or larger), or we can bring a large tent to house it, weather permitting. | ![]() |
The 1900 Wright Glider will be unavailable for most of 2001 -- it will be part of a display at the Dayton International Airport to help inform people of our 1903 Centennial Flyer Project. (Kids all over America are participating in the construction of a replica Flyer 1.) However, it will be available afterwards, when we replace it with the 1901 Wright Glider that we are building. | ![]() |
The 1903 Wright Flyer 1 is available for static display and exhibition. It has a working engine; it can be taxied under its own power, and at a later date we may make it available for short flights to re-enact the first powered flight on December 17, 1903.
The 1910 Wright Model EX will be available for both static displays and flying exhibitions about mid-summer 2000, when we complete the test flights necessary for certification.
The 1911 "Vin Fiz" is under contract to a third party. If there is a conflict between your needs and theirs, the sponsors win. However, Dana has a second "Vin Fiz" well on its way and it should be available soon. Both of these replicas will be unavailable for a few months in 2002 while Dana crosses the continent with them, re-enacting The Flight of the Vin Fiz. | ![]() |
