_Kite_1_small.jpg (1328 bytes) 1899 Kite -- This was built by Wilbur to test the effectiveness of "wing warping" at a method of control roll.
gl3_small.jpg (1594 bytes) 1900 Glider -- This was the first aircraft built by the Wright brothers and flown at Kitty Hawk.
_Glider_Flying_small.JPG (1505 bytes) 1901 Glider -- This was the Wrights' second aircraft, and one of the most frustrating to fly. It was this aircraft that led them to do basic research in aerodynamics, testing different wing shapes in a homemade wind tunnel.
_Glider_and_camp_small.jpg (1505 bytes) 1902 Glider -- It was the Wright's third aircraft, and the first fully controllable flying machine with wing warping to control roll, a forward elevator for pitch, and a trailing rudder for yaw. This allowed the Wrights, for the first time, to navigate the air in all three dimensions.
Exp Glider.jpg (33648 bytes) 1911 Experimental Glider -- The Wrights built a glider along the lines of a Model EX to provide a test platform for an automatic stabilizer. In 1911, they returned to Kitty Hawk  to fly it.

Like all good scholars, we don't pretend to have all the answers, and we're constantly searching for new information or ways to make our exhibits better and more accurate. We also welcome Wright scholars and enthusiasts who would like to participate. If you have information that we should include, or want to add to what's already here, please write.
