In 1901, the Wrights built a shed to house their glider at Kitty Hawk. They had several visitors while they were there, including Octave Chanute (seated, left).

The 1903 Kitty Hawk Camp with the Flyer assembled outside. The Wrights built the second building in 1903 to serve as a workshop and a hangar for building and storing the Flyer. The 1902 glider continued to be stored in the smaller building.

In 1908, the Wright brothers and a part-time employee of theirs, Charlie Furnas, took the Flyer 3 to Kitty Hawk and adapted it to carry a pilot and a passenger. Charlie became the first airplane passenger.
