ome of the most telling testimonials to The Spirit of Dayton Project come from the kids themselves. Here are a few of the letters we've received:  Click on a letter to enlarge it.
  • Of course, the most impressive part of our presentation is the 1902 glider itself, so that's what we hear about most. And every now and then one of the kids is so taken with the aircraft, he gets carried away in superlatives.

  • Other kids just let us know we're cool.  We know it. A bunch of aging adults building antiquated aircraft and arguing arcane points of history -- how could we not be cool?

  • We're also impressed that so many kids seem to understand the new concepts we demonstrate. This young man nailed the lessons on aircraft control.

  • Many children seem to latch onto a part of the Wright story that sparks their imagination. This young woman was fascinated to learn the a resident of Kitty Hawk recycled the fabric on a discarded glider to make dresses for her daughters.

  • This young man admits he was never much interested in the Wright brothers until we brought our glider to his school. But now he hasn't got enough good to say about them. He is especially amazed that they never flew on Sunday -- and that this saved their bacon on one important occasion.

  • While it's good to teach children about the Wright brothers, we feel especially successful when we inspire them, or help encourage their dreams. This young man, as soon as he has a better grasp of which part of the airplane does what, will fly the F-22.

  • This young man has more than a dream -- he has a plan. The Wright brothers would have liked that.

  • Of course, you can't reach every kid. We get the distinct impression that this young woman, while she enjoyed our presentation, probably won't investigate the Wright tale much further. Her father, however...well, that's another story. We really seem to have struck a chord with him, and he wasn't even at the presentation.

  • Then there are those kids that we seem to touch at a  deeper level than others. Beyond learning and inspiration, there is wonder, as this young woman reminds us.

  • Finally, we just couldn't resist showing you this. We're shameless, we know. But we're cool.
