e send you the kit with everything -- we mean it, EVERYTHING -- you need to conduct the workshop. Not only do you get the templates and instructions, but also wood, glue, tools, visual aids, even a video.

This kit comes via United Parcel Service or Federal Express in a 1-foot by 1-foot by 4-feet box. We have about 6 of these kits and we "bicycle" them out to the people that request them. What this means is that we when we send a kit to you, it probably already has two or three people who are waiting to get it after you're done with it. Usually, we can let you have the kit for two or three weeks. Then you must send it back to us with the signed  ribs and participants forms enclosed. We'll unpack it, removing the signed ribs and forms.  Then we'll add more wood and glue to make up for the materials you used up, pack up the kit, and "bicycle" it on to someone else.

When you receive the kit, it will come with a packing list. (See below.) As you unpack it, compare the packing list to the contents. Here's what you should find:

1 Box open.JPG (119338 bytes)
The workshop kit comes in a medium-size box...

Unpacked.JPG (144071 bytes)
...which contains everything you need to conduct the workshop.

2 Sample ribs.JPG (110020 bytes)
Right on top will be the sample ribs -- one full-size and the other 1/3 scale.
1a Video.JPG (92539 bytes)
The workshop video will also be near the top.
3 Practice rib templates.JPG (125654 bytes)
Then comes the templates for the 1/3-scale practice ribs. There should be 20 of these.
4 Instructional binder and forms.JPG (135482 bytes)
Next to the templates, you'll find the instructional binder with participants forms and the packing list in the cover pockets.
5 Tools.JPG (120509 bytes)
There will be several simple tools -- single edge razor blades, a hobby saw, and a scrap of wood to use as a cutting board.
6 Glue.JPG (123463 bytes)
There will be two different types of glue enclosed in a plastic bag. This glue, by the way, has been thoughtfully provided free by the good folks at Franklin Glue, makers of Titebond. They want you to keep the glue as a small gift in appreciation for the time you are spending with young people..
7 Visual aids.JPG (122858 bytes)
Under the practice rib templates, find a little over two dozen photos and drawings mounted on foam board. These are you visual aids.
8 Handouts.JPG (129592 bytes)
There are also some handouts for the participants in the workshop. These sheets will allow the kids to make their own practice rib templates, if they so desire. Get them to make 74 practice ribs, and they can build a 1/3 scale Flyer with a 12-foot wingspan!
9 Sample rib materials.JPG (136365 bytes)
In the box somewhere you'll find strips and spacers to make the practice ribs. We normally pack enough to make 50 ribs. If you need more, tell us.
10 toothpicks and spacers.JPG (142276 bytes)
You'll find toothpicks (sawed in half) and spacers. Use these with the practice rib templates to hold the cap strips and the spacer blocks in place while the glue is drying.
11 Rib materials.JPG (143449 bytes)
There will also be strips and blocks for the full-size ribs. We include enough to make three ribs. Once again, let us know if you need more.
12 whole kit.JPG (140705 bytes)
Finally, at the bottom of the box you find the template for the full-size rib (it folds in half) and some wedges to keep the parts in place as you glue them together.

Packing List

*If you indicated that you had more then 20 participants, you will have additional scale templates and feet.

As you unpack the box, save the packing - the bubble-wrap and foam. Use this to repack the templates, tools and unused materials. To help protect the full-size signed ribs your participants made, pack them between the foam strips with sample ribs. Send the box and ribs back to:
